Audi has become the first automaker to introduce Spotify’s fully native in-car app, bringing music streaming, videos, real-time lyrics and interactive listening features directly to vehicle infotainment systems without requiring a connected smartphone.
The new integration, announced October 21, 2026, is available in select Audi models across 47 markets through the Audi Application Store. Built on Android Automotive OS, the app operates directly through the vehicle rather than relying on smartphone projection systems such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Developed in collaboration with Volkswagen Group software company Cariad and Spotify, the application offers an interface designed specifically for in-car entertainment and controls.
Spotify Adds Videos, Lyrics and Shared Listening
The native app introduces several features beyond conventional music streaming, including Spotify DJ, music videos, video podcasts, real-time lyrics and Spotify Jam.
Spotify Jam allows passengers to scan a QR code, join a shared listening session and add songs to a common playback queue. Drivers can also control music through Audi’s built-in voice assistant.
To reduce distractions, videos and lyrics are unavailable on the central infotainment display while driving. These features become accessible when the vehicle is parked, while compatible front-passenger displays can continue showing supported content during travel.
The application initially supports newer Audi vehicles built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architectures. Compatible models include the electric A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron, along with the A5, Q5 and A6 from the 2026 model year. The upcoming Q7 and Q9 SUVs will also support the integration.
The app is free to download and supports both Spotify Free and Premium accounts. Users can sign in using a QR code or pairing code, after which Spotify operates without requiring a connected smartphone. Certain vehicles may require an Audi connect package.
Spotify plans to expand its native automotive app to additional manufacturers worldwide over the coming year, although it has not yet identified its next partners.
