Google Photos Gets New AI and Editing Features

A new set of Google Photos updates is expanding how users can organize, edit and repurpose images, with features ranging from an AI-generated digital wardrobe to adaptive photo styles and improved markup tools.

Wardrobe moves beyond its initial preview

Wardrobe uses AI to identify clothing that appears across a user’s photo library and organize those items into a digital collection. Users can browse their clothes, combine pieces into outfits and generate virtual try-on images showing how a selected look could appear on them.

Wardrobe combines automatic organization with generative AI. Rather than requiring users to manually photograph and catalog every item they own, it builds the collection from clothing already visible in their Google Photos library.

New AI tools focus on editing and creating from existing photos

Google is also introducing Moods, an editing feature that applies adaptive styles to an image rather than using a conventional fixed filter. Options include looks inspired by 35mm film and early-2000s digital cameras.

Photo Remix is also gaining 15 additional templates that can transform existing photos into themed creations such as photo-booth images, birthday cards and red-carpet-style shots.

The Photos integration with Gemini Spark takes a different approach where eligible users can give Spark a prompt that combines multiple actions involving their photo library, such as finding particular images, enhancing them and preparing them to share with a single request.

Markup gets better tools for everyday edits

Not every update relies on generative AI. Google is also upgrading the Photos markup tool with a redact pen for obscuring sensitive information, adjustable line thickness for drawing and additional fonts for adding text.

The updates have different availability depending on the feature, platform, country and subscription. Wardrobe is the clearest expansion from Google’s earlier preview, while Moods, Remix and the upgraded markup tools add more ways to edit, organize and reuse photos already in a user’s library.
