Mozilla is partnering with AI search company Exa to bring source-backed answers to Firefox. The technology will help power Smart Window on Firefox desktop and Quick Answers on iOS.
Smart Window, which is now available in beta, is Mozilla’s AI-assisted browsing experience. It can help users find information, organize tabs and return to previous browsing tasks.
Exa’s search and retrieval technology will allow Firefox to pull current information from the web and show sources alongside AI-generated answers.
The integration is intended to make it easier for users to verify information instead of relying on an AI response without knowing where it came from. It also emphasizes user choice, transparency and privacy, including a zero-data-retention commitment. Users will continue to have control over whether they use Firefox’s AI features.
