NASA Provides Update on Artemis II, Delays Mission Until 2026

NASA has announced that their Artemis lunar exploration mission to reach the Moon has again been delayed.

During their first mission with the Orion spacecraft, after reaching successful lunar orbit and returning, they expired unplanned loss of material to the heat shield. A spacecraft needs a heat shield to protect it from the extreme temperatures, up up to 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit which is almost half the sun’s surface of 10,000°F (not it’s extreme 27 million°F core), when re-entering Earth’s atmosphere.

After its month-long journey, researches have been analyzing this mishap. All tests of machines and internal conditions remained safe, and the delay will allow further research for the next lunar orbit planned for 2026.

This will put Artemis III, the manned moon-landing mission for 2027.
