Malwarebytes Earns Top Marks in Independent Antivirus Tests

Malwarebytes has received high marks in several independent antivirus evaluations, with researchers reporting strong malware protection, few false alarms and limited impact on everyday computer performance.

The results cover tests conducted between May and August 2026 by AV-TEST, MRG Effitas and AVLab Cybersecurity Foundation. Malwarebytes highlighted the findings in an October 1 announcement.

In AV-TEST’s July–August assessment, Malwarebytes Premium software earned the maximum score of 18 points across protection, performance and usability, securing the organization’s Top Product designation.

The evaluation examined 15 consumer security products running on Windows 11. Malwarebytes performed well across all three categories, although several competing antivirus products also achieved the maximum score.

Additional testing examined how effectively the software handled malware encountered outside traditional laboratory sample collections.

In its July evaluation, MRG Effitas tested eight security products against 300 malware samples. Malwarebytes blocked every sample, preventing 99% from executing and stopping the remainder after malicious activity began.

The software also avoided false positives across 100 legitimate applications and blocked all five phishing websites included in the assessment. AVLab Cybersecurity Foundation reported similarly strong results in its May and July evaluations, with Malwarebytes preventing all tested threats from executing.

It was one of two products to earn Level 1 certification, the organization’s highest designation and show consistent protection across different testing methods.
