What Is Sysinternals Utilities and How to Use

Sysinternals is a collection of free software tools by Microsoft to manage and troubleshoot Windows (and Linux) computers.

The suite comes packaged with the applications as a ZIP file on the Windows official website. Each tool can also be downloaded separately, in case you only want to use a specific one. It’s great for technicians or advancing user to better manage their machine(s).

The Sysinternals utility toolkit includes advanced software including:

  • Process Explorer – a more in-depth Task Manager
  • Process Monitor – in-depth monitoring of live application tasks
  • Autoruns – deeper configuration of startup processes and applications
  • DiskView – a disk utility tool to graphically see your disk’s volume sector by sector
  • RootkitRevealer – an advanced rootkit infection detection tool
  • PS Tools – a command line suite for management of Windows environments
  • AD Explorer – advanced Active Directory (AD) viewer and editor tool
  • SDelete – securely deletes important data and wipe free space of possible previous data leftovers

and much more.

Download Sysinternals

To download, go to their Downloads page. From here, you can download the Sysinternals Suite, which rolls all utilities into a single archive, or your preferred tool(s) individually.

After downloading, you can extract to your desired folder. Be sure to read documentation on your desired tool to maximize its usage.
