VMware’s Workstation and Fusion 25H2 Update Enhances Virtualization with New Features and OS Support

VMware has released Workstation 25H2 and Fusion 25H2, the latest updates to its desktop virtualization platforms. The new versions adopt a calendar-based versioning model, introduce several new features, and expand support for current hardware and operating systems.

Replacing the previous version numbering system (e.g. Workstation 17.x), VMware now uses a YYH# format, where the “25H2” indicates the second half of 2025, which aims to simplify release tracking and upgrade planning.

Among the key additions in 25H2 is dictTool, a command-line utility that allows users to inspect and modify VMware configuration files. Both Workstation and Fusion now support USB 3.2, and virtual machines can take advantage of Hardware Version 22 for improved compatibility and performance.

Workstation users on Windows also gain Hyper-V/WHP detection, making it easier to identify the underlying virtualization mode.

Hardware and OS support has been expanded across both platforms. New CPUs supported in Workstation include Intel Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake, and Meteor Lake.

Guest OS support now includes RHEL 10, Fedora 42, Debian 13, openSUSE Leap 16.0 RC, SUSE Linux 16 Beta, Oracle Linux 10, and macOS Tahoe (Fusion on Intel).

VMware ESX 9.0 is now supported as a guest on Workstation and on Fusion for Intel systems.

New host OS support includes:

  • Workstation: RHEL 10, Fedora 42, openSUSE Leap 16.0 (RC), SUSE Linux 16 (Beta), Debian 13
  • Fusion: macOS Tahoe (Intel and Apple Silicon)

VMware also reports a range of bug fixes, security updates, and usability improvements across both products, including UI fixes on Windows, USB configuration persistence, and reduced logging verbosity in Workstation.

Workstation Pro and Fusion Pro 25H2 are available in English, French, Japanese, and Spanish.
