Spotify is expanding its audiobook ecosystem with a new partnership with Bookshop.org and the introduction of a feature called Page Match, aimed at connecting physical books, e-books, and audiobooks within its platform.
As part of the partnership, Spotify users in the U.S. and U.K. will soon be able to purchase physical books directly through the Spotify app, with orders fulfilled by independent bookstores via Bookshop.org. The rollout is expected later this spring.
Spotify also introduced Page Match, a new feature designed to let readers switch seamlessly between reading and listening. Using the Spotify mobile app, users can scan a page from a physical book or e-book and automatically continue the story at the corresponding point in the audiobook. The feature is expected to roll out to iOS and Android users on most English-language titles by the end of February.
The company says the updates are intended to make it easier for users to move between formats without losing their place, whether they are at home reading or listening on the go. Spotify first entered the audiobook space in 2022 and has continued expanding its catalog and discovery tools since then.
Together, the updates allow users to move between listening to audiobooks and purchasing physical copies through independent bookstores.
