Raspberry Pi Foundation Launches Pi 500+ with Mechanical Keyboard & SSD

Raspberry Pi released the 500+ computer on Wednesday, adding mechanical keyboard switches and internal solid-state storage to its all-in-one desktop format.

The 500+ uses the Raspberry Pi 5 platform with a 2.4GHz quad-core processor, dual 4K display outputs, and built-in Wi-Fi. The system ships with a pre-installed 256GB solid-state drive and comes ready to use with Raspberry Pi’s operating system.

The 16GB of high-speed memory represents a significant increase from previous models. Users can swap out the internal storage drive or boot the computer from SD cards and USB drives if preferred. The base unit starts at $200

The integrated keyboard uses mechanical switches with customizable RGB backlighting controlled by dedicated firmware. The laser-etched keys allow backlight to shine through, and users can swap out keys with standard replacement sets using the included removal tool.

A desktop kit priced at $220 includes the 500+ along with a mouse, 27W USB-C power supply, micro HDMI to HDMI cable, and a beginner’s guide. Both configurations are available for purchase through Raspberry Pi’s official channels.
The 500+ builds on the foundation established by the Raspberry Pi 400, which gained adoption in educational settings during remote learning periods. The new model addresses hardware limitations while maintaining the integrated keyboard form factor.
