Meta has announced that users can now invite others into digital replicas of real-world spaces created with its Hyperscape Capture (Beta) tool. The capability is rolling out gradually across Meta Quest 3/3S headsets and the Meta Horizon mobile app.
Expanding Hyperscape Beyond Single-User Use
Hyperscape Capture allows users to scan a physical environment and generate a navigable digital model in minutes using only the headset. Until now, these replicas were limited to private use.
The new update introduces shareable access links that can be sent through WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, or any messaging platform. Individuals aged 18 and older with the link can enter the space, with support for up to eight participants in a single instance. Meta says it plans to increase that limit over time.
Creators maintain full control and can revoke or reset access at any point. Previously captured spaces within the Hyperscape Preview app will remain visible only to their creators until the updated features reach all users.
Alongside the sharing feature, Hyperscape world rendering has shifed to on-device processing through the Meta Horizon Engine, enabling reduced latency and brings the environments in line with Horizon’s existing travel and interaction features. Spatial audio has also been added to support more natural communication among participants.
Meta describes Hyperscape as part of its broader set of mixed-reality and virtual-reality features. While much of Horizon focuses on fictional or stylized environments, Hyperscape provides users with digitally reconstructed real-world spaces—ranging from personal rooms to professionally staged locations.
The company has highlighted early examples captured by public figures and creators, including a home kitchen, a recording room, and entertainment-themed spaces, illustrating both personal and promotional uses of the tool.
The shared-access feature is rolling out in phases through upcoming updates.
As mixed-reality tools make digital replication more accessible, the addition of multi-user access expands how Hyperscape can be used for shared virtual environments within Horizon.
