Google Vids Adds New AI Features & Provides Free Access to Basic Editing Tools

Google has announced new updates to Google Vids, its AI-powered video creation platform. The latest features include advanced AI tools designed to make video production faster and more accessible to users with or without a Google AI subscription.

These enhancements feature the ability to convert images into short, eight-second videos with native sound, powered by Veo 3. Additionally, users can generate AI avatars—virtual presenters scripted with text—and access automatic transcript trimming to simplify editing.

And to broaden access, all Google users now get access to the core Vids editor, which includes essential editing functions (though not the AI enhancements). This provides a robust suite of editing features and allows individuals and small teams to create and edit polished videos without a paid plan.

Upcoming features include support for multiple video formats (portrait, landscape, and square) to better accommodate sharing across different platforms. These updates are expected to be generally available within the next quarter.

The recent updates aim to streamline video creation workflows and expand the platform’s usability for a wider audience. The new AI-powered tools are now generally accessible to users with appropriate plans, while the basic editing features are open to all at no cost.
