Google Releases New Restore Credentials Tool for Simpler Account Restorations on Android

We’ve all been at the point of upgrading a phone. While it is an exciting purchase and time to learn a new device and features, it does come with the haunting task of logging in to each of your apps. Especially if you’ve forgotten your password (a password manager is best recommended to avoid forgetting or insecurely writing them down).

On Android, it will now be smoother. Google’s Android Developers team has made it easier with the new Restore Credentials tool. It’s a new feature within the Android’s Credential Manager API used by apps allowing seamless transition when you change your device.

It’s automatic with cloud backups enabled (You can verify this within the Settings app on your phone > Google or accounts > Backup). It works by automatically creating a key upon logging or regular session checks and securely storing it within your cloud backups ready for restoring on a new login on a updated device.

It’s great for maintaining engagement. Other secure apps such as financial apps may still require reauthentication for protection, but it’s sure to be used by many other applications going forward. Upgrading your mobile Android phone will be easier and more exciting.
