Google Nest Rolls Out New Sharing Features in Home App Update

Google Nest has introduced new ways to share access to your smart home in their new Google Home App 3.33 update, making it easier and safer to manage who can control your devices.

Flexible Roles for Trusted Users

With the latest update, you can invite family members, roommates, or friends and assign them specific levels of access. The new Member role lets you choose what someone can do—whether it’s managing devices, viewing activity, or adjusting settings—without giving full control over your entire home.

This makes sharing much more flexible. For example, you can give a housemate permission to control the lights and music but keep them from changing your security settings. And for the first time, Nest now allows children to be added as Members. Kids can turn lights on and off, control music, or unlock doors when they get home—helping families manage device access safely. To do this, the child needs to be part of your Google Family Group and join your home as a Member.

When you add someone, you can set their access level:

  • Admin: Full control—adding or removing users, managing devices, changing home settings.
  • Member: Limited access, which you can customize to include device controls, activity viewing, or specific settings.

This setup is great whether you’re sharing with family, supporting friends, or managing multiple properties.

Google’s latest update aims to make your smart home more secure, flexible, and easy to manage—tailored to fit the needs of modern households.
