Google has announced a new feature for its Gemini AI assistant called Personal Intelligence, which aims to make Gemini more useful for everyday use. The feature was revealed on January 14, 2026 and is launching as a beta in the United States.
Personal Intelligence allows Gemini to connect directly to a user’s Google apps, including Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search. When enabled, Gemini can reference information from these services to provide responses that are more specific to the individual, rather than relying only on general knowledge.
Google says the feature is optional and turned off by default. Users must choose whether to enable it and which apps to connect. Connected apps can be disconnected at any time.
According to Google, Gemini uses personal data only to answer user requests and does not directly train its models on content from Gmail or Photos.
Personal Intelligence is designed to help with practical tasks such as retrieving details from emails, identifying information stored in photos, or making suggestions based on past activity. Gemini can also explain where certain information used in a response comes from, allowing users to verify the source.
Access to Personal Intelligence is rolling out first to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. Availability will expand over time, with plans to reach more countries and additional users in the future.
The update comes as AI assistants continue to be integrated more deeply into existing products and services.
