Facebook Launches Automated Content Protection for Creators

Meta’s Facebook has rolled out a content protection feature designed to help creators automatically safeguard their original Reels from unauthorized copying. The new tool, announced today, aims to continuously scans both Facebook and Instagram for matches to protected content and alerts creators when potential violations are detected.

Once a creator enrolls, original Reels posted to Facebook receive automatic protection. The system uses matching technology similar to Meta’s Rights Manager platform to identify full or partial copies across both social networks. When matches are found, creators can review performance data including view counts and account information before deciding how to respond.

Protection applies only to Reels posted directly to Facebook, though the system detects violations across both platforms.

The tool offers three options: tracking matches while adding attribution links, blocking content to reduce its distribution, or releasing claims entirely.

Creators can also establish allow lists for accounts with permission to use their content.

The company advised that misuse, such as repeatedly claiming others’ content, may result in restricted access.

Currently, the feature is available to creators in Facebook’s Content Monetization program who meet enhanced integrity standards, as well as existing Rights Manager users. Access is also being rolled out through the Professional dashboard in the Facebook mobile app.
