SoundCloud has disclosed on an official post that it recently identified and resolved a security incident involving unauthorized activity within an ancillary service dashboard. The company stated that the issue has been fully contained and that there is no ongoing risk to the security or availability of the platform.
Upon discovery, SoundCloud immediately activated its incident response protocols and engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to assist with investigation and remediation. Following containment, the platform experienced several denial-of-service attacks, two of which temporarily affected web access only but were soon resolved.
They’ve confirmed that approximately 20% of users were affected with a limited amount of data accessed, primarily email addresses and information already visible on public SoundCloud profiles. No sensitive data, such as passwords or financial information, was compromised and all unauthorized access has been stopped.
To prevent future incidents, SoundCloud has strengthened its monitoring, access controls, and overall security posture. Some of these updates caused temporary connectivity issues, such as for users accessing SoundCloud via VPNs, and are actively working to resolve.
