Research Shows Leak Of 80+ Million AT&T Customer Records

A database potentially containing the personal information of more than 86 million AT&T customers has been leaked online. The data, first reported by Hackread, showed inclusion of customer names (full name), dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, and Social Security Numbers (SSNs) in plaintext.

The hackers claim the data stems from a breach of AT&T’s Snowflake cloud environment in April 2024 where vulnerabilities were exploited to access call and text metadata of nearly 110 million customers, but the contents don’t fully match that incident’s scope, raising doubts about whether it’s part of the same breach or a different one altogether.

The leak was originally posted on a cybercrime forum in May and has since been recirculated among hacking communities. Analysis indicates the dataset contains over 88 million record entries, a majority (86 million) being unique and even surpassing the hackers’ initial claim of 70 million.

AT&T has not officially confirmed the origin of this leak but acknowledged the claims made by the threat actors. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about cloud security and the exposure of sensitive customer data.

Customers affected are advised to monitor their credit reports and remain vigilant for suspicious activity. Learn more and stay updated on this breach on Hackread’s official post here.
