Google Chrome Update Fixes Vulnerability in V8 JavaScript Engine

On June 30, 2025, Google rolled out a new update for Chrome across all major desktop platforms—Windows, Mac, and Linux. The latest version updates are being gradually distributed to users over the coming days and weeks. This update includes a range of improvements and, most importantly, addresses a significant security vulnerability.

The primary update of this release (138.0.7204.96/.97 for Windows, 138.0.7204.92/.93 for Mac, and 138.0.7204.92 for Linux) is a security fix for a high-severity bug in the V8 JavaScript engine, identified as CVE-2025-6554. This particular vulnerability is notable because it is actively being exploited in the wild, meaning malicious actors are already using it to compromise systems. Google responded swiftly to the threat, mitigating the issue on June 26 through a configuration change that helps protect users across all platforms.

Keeping your browser up to date is crucial for maintaining security, privacy, and optimal performance.

Google strongly recommends that users update their browsers as soon as possible, and/or enable auto-updates to ensure they are protected from this and other potential threats. You can update from your browser’s menu settings >> Help >> About, or from their official google.com/chrome page.
