In recent weeks, Cloudflare has been actively protecting its network from a surge of large-scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Security systems have autonomously identified and blocked hundreds of these malicious assaults, some reaching unprecedented volumes.
One of the most significant attacks peaked at an astonishing 5.1 billion packets per second, and 11.5 terabits per second (Tbps). Cloudflare reported on their official Twitter/X page that this attack was a coordinated UDP flood attack from multiple sources, including various IoT (Internet of Things) devices and several cloud providers.
They emphasized that their defenses held strong throughout these events, preventing any disruption to customer services, and plan to release a report soon with insights into the methods used, attack vectors and mitigation strategies.
As cloud and IoT environments grow, so does the need for vigilant, adaptive defense mechanisms.
