One of the world’s leading and most recognized sportswear and apparel brands, Adidas, recently confirmed via a notice on their website that an unauthorized external party gained access to certain consumer data. As soon as they became aware of the incident, they took swift action to contain it and are working with leading cybersecurity experts to understand the scope of the breach and to prevent further unauthorized access.
According to Adidas, the compromised data does not include sensitive financial information such as passwords, credit card details, or other payment-related data. The affected information primarily consists of contact details of customers who had previously reached out to their customer service help desk. This might include names, email addresses, phone numbers, and other basic personal information.
They are actively informing potentially impacted customers and cooperating with relevant data protection and law enforcement authorities to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
This marks the second breach in recent weeks. As reported by Cybernews, Adidas had also recently confirmed breaches in multiple regions, including Turkey and Korea, where unauthorized access exposed personal customer details such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth. In Turkey, the company contacted affected customers following a hacker attack, while in Korea, attackers accessed a similar set of contact information. Both incidents are believed to only involve customer service data and did not impact financial or credit card information.
Data breaches can happen to even the most established organizations, but how companies respond makes a big difference. It’s a reminder for all of us to be cautious and proactive in safeguarding our personal information online.
